Many
Maine points of interest and entertainment - coastal and inland - are
only short distances by car. Waterville, home of Colby College and
Augusta, the capitol city, with their excellent shopping and
restaurants, are only 15 miles away. Travel to the rocky coast of
Maine (Rockland, Camden, Rockport, Booth Bay, Bar Harbor) is within 1
- 1.5 hours.
SHOPPING
and RESTAURANTS:
In
addition to the quaint shops and restaurants in Belgrade Lakes, which
include Days Country Store, Maine Made, Brass Knocker, The Village
Peddler, The Sunset Grill, The Lazy Lab Cafe, The Village Inn, and
Wings Hill Inn, there is opportunity for mecca-shopping in Freeport,
ME ( just north of Portland, just 45 minutes away by traveling south
on I-95), as well as in Augusta (the Capitol), Waterville, Oakland
and Hallowell.
FISHING:
Great Pond, the largest in the
Belgrade Lakes chain, is well known for its all season excellent bass
fishing. Salmon, trout, white perch and pickerel are also plentiful!
The lake is 8 miles long and 5 miles wide. Fishing permits can be
obtained locally at The Days Store in Belgrade Lakes.
BOATING:
With
over 8000 acres of water and many small islands, there's plenty of
lake to see! Private natural sandy beaches are particularly safe and
excellent for children and adults alike. Swimming, skiing, sailing,
and tubing are all options to entertain you and the family. Foster
Point offers a private beach area for guests, where fun and frolic
abound on a daily basis! A public boat access is conveniently located
in Belgrade Lakes next to the Marina. Boats and motors are available
for rental at several nearby places for reasonable rates.
GOLFING:
There are several public golf courses within easy
driving distance, including the Waterville Country Club, Natannis in
Augusta, Belgrade Lakes Golf Course, Kennebec Heights Country Club
and Sugarloaf Golf Club.
HIKING, BIKING AND KAYAKING:
Trails
abound through the hills and woods of this region for both hiking and
cycling! Acadia National Park is just two hours away. Take your kayak
or canoe on any of the 7 lakes in the region or explore the Kennebec
River!
